Scotiabank Nuit Blanche

Mayoral Message

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Scotiabank Nuit Blanche back to Toronto for its sixth year.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is one of the most popular and highly anticipated events in Toronto's cultural calendar. The event's main objective is to make contemporary art accessible to residents, and with an annual attendance of close to one million people it certainly has achieved that goal.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is an example of the City of Toronto's commitment to sustaining its cultural sector and positioning our city as a globally competitive Creative Capital. Since its inception in 2006, the event has featured more than 600 official art installations created by close to 2,500 artists. It has also generated more than $70 million in economic impact for Toronto.

An event of this scale is only possible because of strong partnerships between the City of Toronto, the arts community, corporate sponsors and the commitment of hundreds of volunteers. I thank everyone involved in making Scotiabank Nuit Blanche possible and I am proud that our city is host to this exciting event once again.

On behalf of Toronto City Council, I invite everyone to come out on October 1, 2011, and rediscover our city transformed by art like you have never seen it before.

Yours truly,

Mayor Rob Ford
City of Toronto
