Performance

Ame Henderson is the Artistic Director of Public Recordings, an atelier for choreographic experimentation, and the AGO’s current Artist-in-Residence. Here, she presents a durational work that engages with archival and anecdotal histories of live art practice at the AGO as an ongoing rehearsal process. Public rehearsal becomes an experimental approach to conjure reenactments, imaginations and configurations of liveness, using memories and documents of past performance within the institution. The gallery becomes a workspace where the time-based activity of planning, preparing and practicing for a future performance stands in for performance itself. This new work continues Henderson’s commitment to aesthetically and politically collaborative working structures.
