Presentation of a sculpture in cardboard of an elephant’s head emerging from the back end of a white cube truck. The installation will yield the impression that the cardboard sculpture is too large for the truck. The work uses animal imagery to symbolize and represent political issues and social behaviour, especially how we often avoid facing even the most obvious issues around us. Utilitarian materials like cardboard and concrete are used because, though so common in our urban world, they often pass unnoticed or unacknowledged. Such materials (as well as the cube truck itself!) are also genuinely “street” substances, integrally linked to our economy as infrastructure: transport, shipping, storage, etc. When employed as art materials, they draw new links between the wider economy and the world of art.
