In The Renewables Project, Toby Smith examines the enormous amount of kinetic energy instilled in Scotland’s natural landscapes. After spending three months during winter and spring on location, he created large-scale still images and innovative video works of hydroelectric and wind energy terrains. By using time lapse cameras at night under subtle moonlight, Smith magnifies the alien quality of the industrial crude structures and emitted energy by recording days of emissions in mere seconds.  The resulting photographs take on a haunting, frozen setting while revealing the incredible forces harnessed by the renewable industry.  Smith's photographs will be accompanied by a 20 minute HD film on a loop in the gallery.
