Installation

In a nod to the Paradise Garage warehouse (1977-87), and an exhibition by Andy Warhol entitled Silver Clouds (1966), Derek Mainella's Paradise Disko will deploy hundreds of chrome/ silver balloons in The Social nightclub on Queen Street West. Fog, smoke, lights, disco balls, lasers and strobes will be used to further enrich the fantasy and will exude kinetic white light accompanied by a multi-projector and multi-monitor video installation. The video program produced by Tasman Richardson, a black and white loop set to a modern soundtrack, will also emit a white glow of raucously transmitted material; thus, completing and contextualizing the environment.  Paradise Disko, coupled with a two-dimensional wall painting by Mainella, will help to form a Gesamtkunstwerk (total art work), which will be heightened by the various DJs who will perform during club hours.
