Multimedia Installation

Pillars of Fire transforms St Thomas's Church using sound, projection, installation and performance, to create a space where light emerges from darkness.  Artists respond to the transcendental beauty of fire, and its symbolic elements.  As fire elusively flows from one form to another, it captivates and inspires. Yet fire holds many paradoxes.  We are simultaneously drawn to its warmth and comfort, while repelled by its dangerous destructive power. Fire can only be fully experienced in the moment of its existence, and evokes moments in time which are both transient and eternal. The mysterious and untamed elements of fire have unleashed artists' creative energy, creating a multimedia environment with music, dance and performance, scheduled all night.  Fire is a metaphor for the life force that burns within us; Nuit Blanche celebrates that creative fire.
