The Lost and Found Forest, 2009

Jerome McGrath - Toronto, Canada
Rina Grosman - Toronto, Canada

Installation, Sculpture, Multimedia Installation

Enter and explore this man-made forest of string, interwoven around thousands of nails along a 40-foot long plastic corridor. The sounds of the forest are also present, familiar but manufactured.

Artists Rina Grosman and Jerome McGrath offer Torontonians a sight and sound portal to the past, to recall the trees we have lost in the name of urban growth.

The installation allows visitors to be immersed in a forest in downtown Toronto, only to exit and find themselves in the city again.

The Lost and Found Forest clearly does not restore a single tree to the Toronto landscape, but for one night recreates and remembers our intangible relationship with nature.

Rina Grosman has a background in fine arts and works on larger scale installations and multiples. Jerome McGrath creates 'found' sound art and has a background in economics and education.

With their diverse backgrounds in art and education they came together to create this multimedia piece that speaks to urban life.

Suitable for all ages
